Managerial merry go round
Fabian Hürzeler is the latest Head Coach to feel the pressure. He was booed on Sunday after Brighton’s disappointing loss to arch-rivals Crystal Palace. I composed with Alan Tanner a list of possible sacking and resignations namely:-
Eddie Howe
Scott Parker
Sean Dyche
Thomas Frank
Pocchetino
Iriola
Pep Guardiola
Marco Silva
Arne Slot
Add to that, those who have are available
Alonso
Oliver Glasner
Enzo Maresca
Reuven Amorim
Suddenly fans have a bigger voice because of social media. websites and phone/ins. One Liverpool fan on 6-0-6 was remonstrating that Slit should go ‘tonight’ after losing 1-2 to Man City, though he won the title last season, Liverpool are possible top four finishers and heading for automatic qualification in the Champions League. Fortunately presenter Chris Sutton added some common sense to the debate.
Man Utd and Spurs are two clubs that have suffered from a turnover of head coaches. Watford have had 19 since the Pozzo family took over. Arsenal’s stability must surely have something to do with the seamless transition from Arsene Wenger to Mikel Arteta.
Brighton have brought in youth as part of their project of offering young players a platform and selling them on for huge prices. Yet their position in the top flight is not in doubt. If there is a meaningful criticism of Hürzeler, it would be that he does not know his best team and makes too many changes.
It’s little better at Sussex CCC, where Jon Filby has resigned his Chairmanship. I was not asked to put my name to the open Letter demanding his resignation but – had I been – I would have refused. He has been chairman for nearly 4 years and in that time Sussex have achieved promotion, he recruited Paul Farbrace – and the ranks have been strengthened by Jofra Archer and John Simpson – but it’s true that we made a whopping loss which resulted in special measures by the ECB, no friend to Sussex.
