Masters Preview
It’s that time of the year when the golf chatter is of the Azaleas in bloom, Amen Corner and Gene Sarazen’s albatross.
Yes – we are talking the Masters at Augusta, the only major played every year on the same course.
It’s invitational, so the circuit attaches greater importance to the US Open. The Open – being a links course – is weather dependent: depending on the draw, you might need a 3 wood into a gusty gale or a controlled 6 iron down-wind.
The PGA does not have the kudos and many do not rank it higher than the Players Championship at Sawgrass.
This was won by Rory McIlroy a few weeks ago but I cannot see the Northern Irishman completing his roster of Majors.
If he does he will find himself amongst titans such as Gene Saracen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.
I don’t fancy Scottie Scheffler either, as the Green Jacket is rarely worn by the same golfer successively.
Only Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods have achieved that in recent times.
No, the Pargie tenner is on 50/1 each-way shot Russell Henley.
The fairways are wide and generous at Augusta but the glassy greens are lightning quick so you need to be an accurate putter and, in form, Russell Henley is one of the best in the business.
