Just in

My sporting week

It’s so good to have live sports back on our screens even if the atmosphere is so weird.

I enjoyed Ascot.

It’s a difficult event to call so I stuck to my tried and tested formula of laying the favourites.

This means at worst you will break even as Stradivarius in the Gold Cup  aside, most favourites are  or 3/4-1.

If it’s a race with a large number of entrants, particularly untried  2 year olds, even better.

I avoid jockey favouritism. Few would have predicted Jim Crowley to do so well and it’s once in a lifetime Frankie Dettori wins every race at Ascot.

John Gosden is the main man in flat racing these days and you have to be brave to oppose him but he tends to do best in Group One racing.

The football is going to produce strange results and I successfully opposed Leicester at Watford and Arsenal at Brighton.

I had half an eye on Everton v Liverpool. Traditionally a feisty encounter this was a bore draw.

Someone attacked the ethics of betting sponsorship in the Sunday papers but I would not fret: the days of large corporate sponsorship, especially from betting companies, may well be numbered.

Yet another problem that any sports club or event is going to have to face.

I regretted not following the Racing and Football Outlook golf expert – is Jeremy Chapman furloughed? – who picked Webb Simpson the winner of the RHS Heritage at Hilton Head.

It was an exciting final round with 6 golfers in the mix including Tyrell Hatton but it was the underrated Webb Simpson who finished ahead of Abraham Ancer.

A Pargie tenner on JH Poston to finish in the top ten ensured I was up on the week.
