My sporting week

My tactic of betting against the favourite in football – on the basis that empty stands equalise the odds – did not pay as I lost out on the victories of Leeds, Wolves and Lazio over Fiorentina.

At the time of writing my man Victor Novlund looks like to have every chance of an each-way finish in a tourney in which Brendan Todd and Dustin Johnson lead the way in the Travelers River Highland event at Cromwell, Connecticut.

It’s been a strange tournament with Graeme MacDowell, Bud Cayley and Ceron Champ withdrawing for ill health reasons.

Dustin Johnson, who has won nothing since Mexico last year, has recovered his mojo but you never know with him: masses of natural talent but only one Major to date.

He is a huge hitter but his short game and putting are not as reliable.

PS: Johnson did win after Brendan Todd fell away.

About John Pargiter

John Pargiter’s biggest claim to fame is his first-ever work experience job, as ‘legs’ (or runner) for Henry Longhurst. For many years he worked in insurance at Lloyds. After retiring he has returned to his favourite sport of golf and is a keen recreational sailor and grandparent. More Posts
