My sporting weekend
Francesco Molinari winning the Quicken Loans on the USPGA and Alex Noren the Open de France on the Ryder Cup venue Le National near Paris is good news for the Britain and Europe chances. It was not so bad for me too as for the second week runningJeremy Chapman bagged a winner in Noren. In the past I have overlooked backing one of his winning recommendations and thought I had but with Alex Noren I did precisely the opposite. It was only when I could not understand the origin of £100 in my Betfair account that I realised I backed the winner. With Croatia at evens to beat Denmark in 90 minutes this was a must bet against. Denmark were unbeaten in 18 games , have a good record against Croatia and every team plays cautious by the round of 16. My pre match bets of France, Uruguay and Edison Cavani as top scorer are all looking good too.
We still have the USPGA and some European events to go but the Ryder Cup teams are taking shape I hope the European captain Thomas Bjorn chooses same national parings ;Stensen/ Noren; Poulter /Rose ; Fleetwood/Hatton; McDowell/Mcilroy ; Rahm/Garcia . With Molinari this leaves one more I would like to see Alex Levy for his course knowledge but Shaun Lowry, Martin Kaymer , Matt Fitzgerald and Chris Wood all have claims. Curiously the only American to test the course was Justin Thomas . Tiger Woods who reckons he is in with a chance of selection as well Vice Captain chose to go to a sponsor’s event rather then view the course .
