My sporting weekend
-
- It could have been a welcome double if Bryson de Chambeaud had won the USPGA 3M, as I had already cashed in on Joe Rahm who had triumphed at the Irish Open. I fact “the mad scientist” blew it, finishing second. Still it was a welcome boost to my confidence and bank account.

- With the Open at Royal Portrush looming up, it’s also useful to have a war chest. I can see a lot of patriotic betting on Rory McIlroy and might well oppose him as he does not merit all the publicity he attracts.
I was interested to read of the money waged on the Women’s World Cup. Knowing little about women’s football I stayed clear.
I fancied Nibali to be King of the Mountains in the Le Tour but crashed in the first week have in the past cost me dear.
My hopes New Zealand have the toughest draw against India but how many times has a final not been contested by the two most impressive teams in the semis.
The Black Caps have Kane Williamson, Ross Taylor and Trent Boult and if they bat first they must surely have a chance.
