My sporting weekend
As ever, after a winning run with 4 wins at Plumpton and Adam Scott, it was inevitable my luck would turn.
I was on Tommy Fleetwood for the Honda on the Jack Nicklaus-designed Palm Beach course with its treacherous Bear Trap on holes 16/17/18.
Tommy, the highest rated player in the world not to win a major, was leading after 3 rounds but was pipped by 21 year old South Korean Im.
Sad as I was not to have a winner and liking the Southport player, I was pleased for the return to form of Lee Westwood and Luke Donald.
Mind you this poses a problem for the Ryder Cup captain Padraig Harrington especially as Justin Rose is out of form.
He would like to pick Westwood, but how does he then accommodate Ian Poulter and Sergio Garcia?
Rookies Andrea Pavan and Bernd Wiesberger may be automatics. Still – he has Rahm, Casey, McIlroy, Lowry , Hatton, Francesco Molinari as certs and Fitzgerald.
My only result was a top eight finish for Gary Woodland.
Otherwise I backed against Brighton who can’t buy a win in 2020.
I enjoyed el Classico.
Messi was strangely quiet but what a find Real’s flying winger Vinicius is!
It was a wonderful display of virtuosity and if you think Manchester City’s Almeric Laporte cannot make the French side because of Raphael Verlaine who had a wonderful game at the heart of the Real defence.
