My sporting weekend
I am back to betting form again with an each way finish for young Spaniard Arni Arnaus in the Italian Open on the European Tour and betting against Manchester United in a dreadful match a goalless draw v Chelsea.
My fancy Webb Simpson finished out of the each way berths in the Zozo USPGA event at Las Vegas.
This was won by Patrick Cantlay.
You should be hearing more about Arnaus and Cantlay but you won’t because Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods attract all the attention as we build up to the Masters on November 12th.
The European tour often produces an exciting final day.
Yesterday another aspirant with much potential – Laurie Canter – fought it out with eventual winner Ross McGowan, Martin Kaymer and fellow German Sebastian Heisele, Nicolas Colsaerts and South African slugger Dean Burmeister.
McGowan is a journeyman pro and this was his first win in 11 years.
In the Zozo, Cantlay had Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas for company at the head of the leaderboard but edged them out.
Bubba Watson finished 4th.
There are plenty of hardy perennials on the US Tour like him, Phil Mickelson, Jim Furyk and Zack Johnson as another (Tiger Woods) looks to defend his Masters title.
