My sporting weekend

In the US PGA Genesis Invitational event at the Riviera Club in California Max Homa won in a play-off with Tony Finau.

Max Homa is a young tyro whilst Tony Finau has been around a long time without ever  winning a major.  Not many punters backed either. I was on Patrick Cantlay, Mark Leishman, Collin Morikawa and Carlos Ortiz – none of whom featured.

Nor did Rory McIlroy. Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm did finish high up the leaderboard without ever topping it.

I did have one result, backing against Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby.

Liverpool were 1-2 unrealistic odds for a team not playing well who has lost at home to Brighton. I know they have injuries but so do many teams.

Sheffield United are bereft of all three central defenders.

Liverpool have huge resources.

An experienced manager like Jurgen Klopp should realise that you must estimate a one third loss to your squad through injury, suspensions and form.

About John Pargiter

John Pargiter’s biggest claim to fame is his first-ever work experience job, as ‘legs’ (or runner) for Henry Longhurst. For many years he worked in insurance at Lloyds. After retiring he has returned to his favourite sport of golf and is a keen recreational sailor and grandparent. More Posts
