My Sporting Weekend

Final scores may be dramatic but they are not much help to the sporting flutterer, like me. Everton at evens seems a juicy lay to me. Things are not good in the state of Goodison, they have had the Rooney debacle and rumours are emerging that the team don’t care for the disciplinarian Ronnie Koeman. Brighton, conversely, are always a tough prospect at the Amex. Ivan said the first half was as dull as any he has seen but things picked up in the second half with Brighton taking the lead. A late penalty awarded for an infringement in the box presented Everton with a point. Referees are now penalising the wrestling match and blocking that is routine.

Exactly the same thing happened in the Milan derby. This was the best match I have seen so far this season, no edgy 0-0 affaire but an open game that ended 3-2 in Inter’s favour. I had laid Inter and Milan undoubtedly played the better football and merited at least  a draw. However the referee again penalised a block from a cross and awarded Inter a penalty. Icardi, arguably the best forward in Europe right now, converted this to complete his hat-trick, win the game and lose my bet.

Tyrell Hatton won his second tourney in succession at the Italian Open also played in Milan. It’s only temperament that will prevent the Welwyn man from being a major golfer if not a Major winner. I had backed last year ‘s winner Francesco Molinaro who featured and folded. Over in Malaysia the USPGA was being played. Pat Perez won this one and I had a result on the latest new kid on the block Xander Schauffele finishing top five.
