My TV sporting weekend

Once again I found Premiership rugby produced the most enjoying sporting spectacle.

My anticipation of Harlequins v Saracens was tempered by the absence on international duty of many of the stars.

No Farrell v Smith, Dombrandt v Vinipola – nor the aggression of Joe Marler scrumming against Maru Itoje. Not too worry.

It was still an exciting match that Sarries won in the dying embers.

Danny Care looked a better scrum half than Ben Youngs – he was electric in driving Quins forward and even scored a drop goal.

In retrospect Quins might have kicked some of their penalties for 3 points rather than position but it all led to an exciting finale.

I could only find one precedent in sport for Quins winning the Premiership without an established coach and that was Luton reaching the 1959 FA Cup Final with no manager and club captain Syd Owen assuming that role

The Premiership football was not so exciting.

Spurs losing to Manchester Utd shifted the sacking attention to Nuno Spirito Santo.

One paper headlined it “El sackico”.

It was not much of a match and the one I enjoyed the most was Liverpool 2 Brighton 2.

Since I cover all the sports, a word for British equestrians since they get such little coverage.

This is one sport where not only Britain dominates but its totally mixed.

Roman Abramovich’s daughter Sofia is a keen rider, as is Bruce Springteen’s and there is interest and support from Lord Harris of Peckham and the owner (Lord Kirkham) of DFS furniture .

Plenty of money in the sport with showjumping horses changing hands for up to £5m.

I always like to take in a European game and went for AS Roma v AC Milan last night.

AS Roma managed by Jose Mourinho lost 0-3 to a resurgent Milan who alongside Napoli and Inter Milan are setting the pace.

Milan’s first goal was scored by Zlatan Ibrahimovic who at 40 still has a sublime touch and predatory goal scorer’s instinct.
