Never heard of him – but worth a peak …

Yesterday, confined to quarters miles from anywhere in the countryside, I received a cryptic text from an old school pal:

“You must immediately read this article!” it read, followed by (an unusual achievement in his case) a properly-captured and applied ‘link’ to a piece by Russell Jackson on the life of one Major Rowland Bowen – of whom I had never previously heard in my life – as had appeared upon the website of The Guardian.

For reasons which need not concern us here, it took me the best part of eight hours to get around to actually doing as I had been bidden and thus read said item.

I was duly impressed.
