New Zealand 44 Argentina 6

Whilst I understand the criticism of a draw made 3 years ago which had the four best teams in the world in the one section, it has helped the All Blacks who have choked in past World Cups by not meeting competitive opposition before the business end.

This time they have had to play France and Ireland before then demolishing Argentina.

There has been so much talk of France, Ireland and South Africa that the ABs have slipped under the radar to reach the Final.

In Will Jordan they have one of the finest wingers of all time, Ardie Savea is the best eight in the world and the whole team is sprinkled with talent welded onto the traditional work ethic and competitiveness.

It’s been enjoyable and illuminating messaging the Rust rugby team who do not appear confident of an England victory later today v South Africa.

Anything can – and does – happen in a one off game, refereeing has been inconsistent, injuries can kick in and there is the good and bad luck  factor.

I see two weaknesses in the Boks: Mannue Libbok is not a metronomic kicker and if they start their head injury shenanigans with the physio carrying on messages, Kiwi ref O’Keeffe will be on it.

I would be more confident of England’s chances with George Ford – and not Owen Farrell – starting but England particularly in their back row are no dummies.

The two props look aged and I wonder if Joe Marler was picked for his lippiness.

England or South Africa in the final? We fear neither.

About Granite Grant Logan

‘Granite’ Grant Logan is covering the Rugby World Cup in Japan 2019 for us. Grant was a no holds barred lock for Hawkes Bay who took no quarter and expected none. Unfortunately his appearances in the All Black jersey were limited by the pre-eminence of Frank Oliver and Andy Haden. After hanging up his size 14 boots he became a highly respected coach and analyst. More Posts
