Just in

Nothing much, but one of those things …

Yesterday afternoon I just happened to be visiting friends in Richmond. As I walked across the bridge I noticed groups of by-passers looking over the side. This was plainly because something of unusual interest or amusement had happened and prompted a spontaneous pedestrian version of ‘rubbernecking’ (or whatever it is called) when motorists deliberately slow down out of curiosity after a big pile-up or traffic accident on motorways.

Feeling superior I kept walking without pausing to join in, feeling inwardly slightly superior to all those idiots who cannot stop themselves ‘going to have a look’ or even taking photos or videos of the misfortune that perhaps had befallen a fellow member of the human race.

That was until I reached the far side of the bridge. At that point curiosity worked its magic and wicked temptations upon me and I was unable to resist.

I found myself crossing over to the other side of the road and walking back over the bridge, just to gawp at whatever everyone else was gawping at.
