OGC NICE

Michel de Vacri

The big news here is the takeover of OGC Nice by British businessmen James and Bob Ratcliffe. They seem to be better known here than in the UK.

James lives in Cap Ferrat and owns the ILEOS pharmaceutical company that took over the SKY cycling team who are based in Monaco.

Last night Bob was at the Allianz Arena to see local rivals Olympique Marseille win 2-1.

Because of homophobic banner and chanting by the Nice ultras in the “Populaire Sud”the referee took both sides off the pitch for 10 minutes. I have never seen this before.

The brothers have promised to invest 50 million euros in the team. Yet this will probably only be sufficient to match Lille or Lyon as PSG’s budget is much greater.

The good thing is we can keep our best players as we have seen much more talent leave the club than join us.
