Pargie strikes again

For the second week running I napped the winner when Harris English won the play-off of the Travellers at the Highlands River Course in Connecticut over Kramer Hickok.

Like all flutterers it’s never good enough, nor am I totally happy, as I was on Bubba Watson each way who bogeyed his last 5 holes when going into the back nine he was tourney leader on -13 and finished out of the each way places -7.

English was in that group of potential challengers and I only backed him on the recommendation of the Racing and Football Outlook.

His career started brightly with 2 tourney wins but he hit the buffers these last 5 years

Now with a new coach and positive caddy in Eddie Larson he is back as a contender though it took him 8 holes to win the play-off.

The Euros have not been as kind to me.

Of my two picks – the other was Italy – Portugal went out last night to much fancied Belgium.

The first half was dreary but once the now former champions were a goal down they had to attack and came very close to equalising in an enthralling second half.

Italy have the aura of winners whilst Belgium – probably without de Bruyne -still have France to play if they beat Switzerland.

I swerved the Tour de France.

A good friend of mine is a cycling aficionado and advised Van de Poel for Saturday ‘s opening stage in Brittany but there was an almighty pile up.

That is the reason  I swerve the event for betting purposes: you can easily lose your fancy through injury in the first week, whilst  the favourite Tadej Pogacar’s odds are too skinny.

Nonetheless the views of the French countryside and eccentric commentators who seem more interested in their food than cycling make for a different and welcome sporting TV treat.
