Pargie’s sporting weekend

Alan Tanner invited me to Fulham v Wigan on Saturday. Bob Tickler’s godson Jamie now goes regularly with him. He (Jamie) advised that I should back Scott Malone to score any time as he always scores for Jamie. He duly did so but in his own net and had to explain why this does not count. I always thought Fulham would retrieve something even though they were not playing that well and Wigan were creating chances.

ZanottiOn Sunday I settled down early to watch the Maybank final round in the European Tour. My only hope here was Lahiri who finished just outside the top five. Danny Willett went into the final round 3 strokes ahead of the field but he was overhauled by the Italian Zanotti.

When Rennes went two up against Nice I laid them and was delighted that in the second half Nice scored twice to make it a draw and win my bet. Jordan Spieth was never going to be caught in the final round of the ATT at Pebble Beach. It’s an odd competition with so many celebrities and businessmen competing which only slows down play.

johnsonI was on Dustin Johnson here and the Carolina boy finished third. He is the best natural and most talented golfer on the planet and under coach Butch Harman has added a fine short game and reliable putting to his monster driving off the tee. He never seems totally right in the head which is why his Major count is low. So I more or less broke even.

The only 6 Nations game I saw was France v Scotland. Traditionally Scotland get off to a poor start but having beaten Ireland they more than held their own against the massive French. I could see no juicy tickles here but I think England’s win against France will prove the decisive game though of ours the Irish at Lansdowne Road will be formidable.
