Rampant Saracens thrash Harlequins 52-7
Yesterday – along with 61,000 others – I went to the impressive Tottenham Hotspur stadium to see Quins play Sarries.
The stadium is renamed Stonex – the NFL pitch is used – and in the modern style, loud disco music is played with ex-England international James Haskell the DJ.
From the start Sarries sliced through Quins, mostly on the right, and after 2 minutes Alex Lewington went over.
Owen Farrell, playing his 250th Saracens game, converted.
The Sarries machine did not let up. By 30 minutes Sean Maitland (twice) and Theo Dann had made it 24-0.
All game I cannot recall one proper Quins tackle and, not for the first time, Farrell bossed Marcus Smith.
Alec Dombrandt did pull one try back, peeling off the base of the scrum, but the onslaught continued in the second half.
Even without Maru Itoje – and Jamie George and Nick Iziekwe on the bench – Sarries still have an impressive team with the likes of Ben Earl, Eliot Daly and Theo Dan.
By contrast Quins offered very little: Danny Care and Marcus Smith never got going and Louis Lynagh was not the live-wire wing that played for Italy in the Six Nations.
