Sharks don’t bite ( again)
Whatever small chance of winning the Southern division of the T20 Sussex Sharks had, evaporated last night when Oval Invincibles aka Surrey posted a total of 258. To make it worse 93 of those runs came from Laurie Evans once of this parish. It was a total the Sharks were never going to reach and they lost by 134 runs . There was some consolation in hitting 11 off the over of another old boy Chris Jordan
The Sharks have only won twice both against London sides. They beat Middlesex in the week after a brilliant boundary catch by James Coles and beat Surrey at the Oval.
Personally I am pleased to see the Sharks out of this competition. Neither the format nor the match experience appeal . You have to wear a wristband indicating your area which meant the steward denied me access to the adjacent loo. It’s an excuse for a Friday night lads drink up which only adds to the perpetual blaring noise of the tannoy pop music. Because it is predictable I pride myself in seeing the result early and leaving well before the end.
The Ashes start next week. It’s well matched with the Aussies having the bowling advantage but England have momentum and are at home. My anticipation is tempered by the absurd decision to play all the tests by the end of July.
