Six Nations Reviewed
I watched both Wales v Ireland and the Calcutta Cup between England and Scotland. Wales, in front of their home crowd, played with pride, vim and vigour and were leading at half-time but Ireland were too strong. Their second row forward Tadhg Beirne is magnificent and young Sam Prendergast at fly half will surely be playing in that position for the British Lions in Australia.
England had lost their last 4 games to the auld enemy. They are are not a great side, nor was it a great game, but they have guts and squeezed home.
I find Finn Russell cocky and was pleased he failed to convert Van der Merwe’s try to win the game.
Commentator Nick Mullins did not read the game that well.
I suspect that most, like me, were rooting for the home team and – whilst some considered Duhan van der Merwe the Man Of The Match – I thought Maro Itoje was.
He was everywhere’ and had really re-discovered its best form.
If France beat Ireland on March 8th – as I think they will – and England now play the two weakest teams Wales and Italy they have a distinct chance of winning the Six Nations.
