Sporting weekend

Before I boast of a successful betting weekend I would like to pay tribute to 47 year old Lee Westwood for winning the Road to Dubai.

For 2 years Westwood was once  world number one but because he has never won a Major and his name is not Rory McIlroy he has never got the recognition.

Remember Orville Moody?

Probably not but he won a Major so winning one does not  a stellar golfer maketh.

To be competing for 20 plus years at the top as Westwood has done does.

I was on Victor Perez who finished high enough to cash in my each way bet.

He is one of several promising European youngsters like the Spaniard Adri Arnaus the Finn Sam Valimaki and the Norwegian Victor Novlund of whom you will be hearing more. The DP World Winner in Dubai Matt Fitzpatrick at 26 is scarcely a senior either.

My tactic of betting against favourites in the football paid off.

Armed with local knowledge from Alan Tanner I fancied Fulham might get a result.

This is not the Liverpool that dominated 2018 and Fulham are fast improving.

Backing against Manchester City and Leeds also paid off for me. As Burnley showed by beating Arsenal at the Emirates it’s a most unpredictable season so far.
