Sporting weekend

After my Collin Morikawa win, I salted away some of the dough to go on a shopping trip for garden furniture at B & Q with the missus but I still had enough in the war chest to lose up to last night.

I backed Kevin Kisner each way for the Wyndhams who finished third and laid Manchester United against Seville.

You will never go bust laying the Premier big boys in European Competition. Spurs, Chelsea , Manchester City, Liverpool and now Manchester United have exited.

Seville are on a run of 20 games without defeat and this will be their sixth Europa League Final.

Although they needed a fine performance from keeper Yassine Bounou when they were under the cosh, I always thought them the better side.

I don’t why BT sport commentary team and analysis assume that the viewer will support an English side.

I have been to Seville, loved the city, watch out for their result and even named our tabby cat  Marmaduke Sevilla.

They are one of the best teams in Spain and the way things are going at Barca might challenge for the title.

It was also an extremely enjoyable game to watch. All praise to UEFA for playing the final stages of their two competitions in Germany and Portugal which has worked out well .

Sam Horsfield fought off the Belgians Thomas Detry and Tom Peters to win the European Tour event at Celtic Manor.

All three are more than possibles for the Europeans in the Ryder Cup next year.

My boy Gavin Green finished 11th. At the  US PGA Jim Herman beat off Billy Horshel to win the Wyndhams.

The Sunday Times has the best sport coverage of  any newspaper. Their football correspondents cover the European game informatively.

David Walsh in his column castigated Brooks Koepka for his critique of golf as a watchable sport.

The modern day sportsman is epitomised by Stuart Broad’s over the top reaction to being no more than rested and Koepka who has won 4 Majors is certainly an unappreciative person.
