Just in

Sunday Sport

There was an eclectic choice this Sunday which I started with the American football showpiece at the New Tottenham Hotspur stadium between Jacksonville  Jaguars and Miami Dolphins.

The Jags won this 23-20 with two late field goals.

The problem particularly for the BBC that broadcast it is that the game lasts 4 hours with numerous ad breaks, but the action only one.

This means the studio analysts get a lot of air time and frankly they were not up to it.

The other problem is identification.

Every team is freshened by the draft – in the Jags’ case quarterback Trevor Lawrence – but you are not familiar with the new additions.

No such problem of recognition with Bath v Saracens (17-72) where Maru Itoje, Owen Farrell, Jamie George, the brothers Vinupola, Sam Underhill, Anthony Watson and Danny Cipriani all featured.

It was too one-sided to be enthralling and for a team to concede 72 points on their own patch is little short of appalling.

Sarries might have broke or bent every rule in the book but they are one of the world’s great club sides.

I cannot wait for their encounter with Harleuqins.

I finished my sporting watch with a comfortable Spurs win over Newcastle.

The claims that Newcastle will be a big club look far-fetched to me.

They have a fiercely loyal support but with that comes parochialism and over-expectation.

Because Mike Ashley comes from the south he will always be disliked though the truth is he has sorted out Newcastle’s finances, freeing up the new owners to buy with a big budget without fear of breaching financial fair play.

The problem is that venal agents will be setting a Newcastle premium and the new owners have no experience in running a Premier team.

Some fans dressed as Arabs but there was also a van with a poster touring the ground reminding them of the murder of Jamal Khashoggi.
