Sussex pride

On Pride weekend, which brings much money and even more chaos to our city, I was very proud that our two teams – Brighton HAFC and Sussex Sharks – recorded victories.

With the departures of Yves Bissouma and Marc Cucurella – and Manchester United fired up by new manager ten Hag – I initially did not hold much hope.

However, when Pargie called, I advised the odds of 5-8 of a United victory were worth opposing.

When I saw the bizarre selection of Christian Eriksen as a false nine I felt even more confident.

The shrewd Graham Potter played a 3-6-1. Adam Webster, Leeis Dunk and Joel Veltman were the three; Moises Caicedo, Adam Llalana, Solly March, Pascal Gross, Leandro Trossard and Alex Mac Alister the 6 in midfield – with Danny Welbeck leading the line.

The system worked so well that the Seagulls were two up through Gross at half-time.

United rallied in the second half and Brighton were denied a pretty clear penalty when Welbeck was shoved over.

Sanchez erred on a cross for the United goal and then the keeper appeared to lose all confidence.

Brighton weathered this and won 2-1.

Over at Hove, Sussex Sharks beat Leicestershire, who has won their first two games in the One Day Cup.

As Moeen Ali commented, a 50-over game can be dull when the result is not in question.

Leicestershire posted a low total of 120  which the Sharks made with ease in 18.1 overs

After failing in both the County championship and T20, this young side might just do something in the Royal London Cup and emulate the Sussex side that won the first two Gillette Cups.
