Sussex Sharks triumph in T20
Sussex Sharks ended Kent Spitfires run of 5 victories last night at Hove.
It was an emphatic victory achieved with 4 overs to spare. After 5 overs when Kent had scored 51 the Sharks looked in trouble. However the Sharks have a bowling attack of raw pace in Jefra Archer (who looked fitter than Jimmy Anderson), Tymal Mills and Chris Jordan. Add to that the wiles of leg spinner Rashid Khan and it’s very potent.
Jefra Archer confirmed what a fine death bowler he is, conceding only 3 runs in his final session.
The dashing young Phil Salt – surely not long before he gets an international call – and Laurie Evans both scored 60 plus runs and the Kent total of 154 became easily achievable.
It was a warm evening in Hove, the sun set in our faces and conversation, fuelled by Harveys bitter and fine wine, was convivial.
The expectations of the football season were debated but it seems too early for soccer.
Rather we should savour a vintage sporting summer of a cricket World Cup victory, Shane Lowry winning the Open in his own country, a classic Wimbledon Final and what’s boiling up to a pulsating Ashes.
