Sussex sport update

I said to Alan Tanner that we two have much in common: no points, relegation positions but at least you have scored a goal. I did not go Birmingham where the Seagulls lost 1-0 but by all accounts we were pretty dire. Sami Hyppia has got in two midfielders Teixeira from his old stomping ground Liverpool and Holla from Holland but we desparately need a striker. Tonight we go to Leeds who beat Middlesbrough. Crawley Town are faring better in  the division below. They put Ipswich out of the Capital Cup and are fifth. Their best player is defender Dean Leacock who started his career at Fulham. Near to the Marina , Whitehawk ‘s reputation was  that of a sink council estate but both the estate and Whitehawk FC have improved. The football team is in the lower half of the table in the Conference league.

Local Brighton lad Charlie Grice was doing well in the 1500m heats in the European Championships when he was twice felled and did not qualify. Ae have high hopes that he might emulate our greatest athletic son Steve Ovett.

It’s not been a great season for our cricket side. However I was pleased to see our lad Chris Jordan take his best figures of 4-18 inthe mauling of India . Luke Wright has been a run machine but I cannot see a recall with so many youngsters . Now here is  a trivia question for you: name the eight Sussex test players still alive? 4 are pretty easy but I can see you struggling with the rest.
