Sussex v Glamorgan (1st day)
With the sun out and the icy wintry wind of late turning into a cooler breeze where better to be than at Hove for the first day of the county championship?
It was that hot that sun burn warnings were broadcast with sun lotion stations.
If the weather was not enticing enough, four classy Test class cricketers were on parade: Marcus Labuschagne of Glamorgan, Ollie Robinson, Chet Pujara and Steve Smith of Sussex.
Robinson was the dominating player in the morning session, justifying the decision to bowl, weighing in with 4 wickets and snaring Labuschagne for 1.
I don’t know what odds Pargie would give on both Pujara and Labuschagne respectively being out for a duck and a singleton but this is what happened.
Steve Smith did chip in with 68 in plentiful stands, first with first Tom Haines then James Coles.
With Glamorgan dismissed for 123 and Sussex at 221 for 4, the home side are in pole position and for once it seems the weather will not intervene.
Brighton went down 4-1 at high flying Newcastle.
Neither Caicedo nor Mac Alister were on the starting line up, which may mean that the club is getting used to their departure.
