Sussex win by 18 runs/Hail Louis Kimber!

I do not suppose many had previously heard of Louis Kimber – but they have now!

On the morning of the fourth day, chasing 442 with 5 wickets down, Leicestershire’s chances were forlorn.

Then Louis Kimber – at number 8 –  came to the crease to score a record breaking 243. He hit 43 off one over from Ollie Robinson, who is in good form, and 21 sixes overall for the fastest-ever Championship double century.

Leicestershire came within 18 runs of victory but it then was Nathan MacAndrew who claimed his wicket.

It was an extraordinary effort, acclaimed quite rightly by the Sussex lads with a guard of honour, and for once county cricket got some exposure as it featured on the 6 o’clock newscast.

Sussex now lead the second division – with Middlesex second – which suits the cricket writers of The Rust admirably.
