The festive spirit

Here’s a bit of fun for this time of year.

Sometimes I go on the YouTube website in order to entertain myself or remind myself of musical or other performances from the past. Like many websites, YouTube continually ‘remembers’ the choices you make and then offers you new items, on the basis “You liked that, so you might also like this …”

I would happily plead guilty to being a fan of blues and also boogie-woogie piano so these are two genres that I regularly receive suggestions upon.

There’s an accomplished piano player called Brendan Kavanagh who has a website on which – having set up a piano somewhere on the London Underground – he allows passengers and passers-by, whether they be experienced musicians or novices, to tinkle away on its ivories if the mood takes them … and then he surprises them by playing e.g. blues or boogie-woogie versions of whatever they have played.

On this occasion, however – because of the season – he has linked up with a kid who “can play a bit” in order to entertain those passing through the station in question:
