The PGA championship
The PGA is the poor relation of the four Majors but often produces an exciting tourney. Last weekend’s finish at Valhalla Kentucky was no exception with Xavier Schauffele just holding off Bryson DeChambeau.
When I worked out my staking plan I dismissed Schauffele for his weak performances on the final day though he is a consistent top ten finisher.
I also swerved Rory McIlroy who won his last major here 10 years ago.
His decision to file divorce papers would only add to a congested workload for the broker in the LIV/PGA schism.
The odds on Scottie Scheffler were unattractive, then he was involved in a bizarre arrest early on Friday morning.
The Pargie tenner went on Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Louis Aberg, Max Homa and Corey Connors – none of whom finished top ten.
Shane Lowry did well, carding a 62 and building on his joint Wells Fargo victory with McIlroy.
No golfer has a better touch round the greens than the bulky Southern Irishman and Open Winner at Royal Portrush.
DeChambeau is a massive hitter – his second shot is normally a wedge to the green – but Xavier Schauffele’s game held firm and he was a worthy winner.
