The Players Championship

The Players Championship at Sawgrass is known as the fifth Major.

It has a larger prize money ($20 million) than some of the Majors.

The Sawgrass course, designed by Pete Dye, has the signature 17th hole – a par three to an island green.

Although Ricky Fowler has never won a Major he has won the Players, which must be at least a financial consolation.

Mind you, the total US PGA money is a staggering $427 million so no wonder its best players resist the Saudi lucre of their Super Golf League.

Maverick McNealy

The Racing and Football Outlook recommended for the Players Patrick Cantlay, Hideki Matsuysma, Corey Connors, the wonderfully-named Maverick McNealy and Daniel Berger.

Recently I have been bemoaning my luck with my each-way picks at the Genesis and Honda finishing eighth, one place outside the paying positions.

I did have a result yesterday in rather odd circumstances.

I fancied a draw between Real Madrid and PSG but – by error – bet against it.

So I found myself watching a fine match hoping that it would not be a draw.

PSG dominated and scored first and, when Benzema equalised, I anticipated a betting loss.

However Benzema went on to score a hat trick and my bet was successful.
