The sporting weekend
It was another mini disaster in the golf with the nearest to a result being Lucas Glover finishing just outside the each way belt. Justin Harding, a good South African golfer but hardly a global name, won the Qatar Masters.
Over in the States Francesco Molinari won the Arnie Palmer Invitational in Florida. There are two golfers who dominate the golfing press – Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy – notwithstanding that neither have won a major for years.
I was on Rory at 7-1 and felt confident when he went into the final round one shot behind Matt Fitzpatrick. After some wayward hitting on the 7th hole he arrived on the green needing to sink a crucial 8 foot putt for par. He missed.
Molinari sunk his of comparable length. At that moment I thought Rory would not win and Molinari would. I like Molinari. He is not a big hitter but one of the best iron players on the circuit and a reliable putter.
Following the advice of Ivan Conway I bet against Crystal Palace but any winnings were cancelled by Fulham losing at Leicester. Thanks, Alan! Fulham can let you down. Not me – I thought Manchester Utd would at least draw but they fired blanks in front of goal.
So nothing in the war chest for a midweek trip to Ikea.
