The Tanner Report: Spurs 1 Fulham 2

To be two up after 6 minutes against Spurs at Spurs Stadium – how good is that? It moved my friend and Fulham nutter David to verse:

Vicario likes to go à-wandering

Outside his Tottenham box

But when the ball drops to ‘Arry Boy (Harry Wilson)

Opportunity knocked.

It’s not my job, nor my wish, to comment on Spurs but there is an important element to the Wilson goal other than its excellent execution. Goalkeepers nowadays have to be comfortable on the ball and Vicario – instead of putting the ball into row Z and returning to his goal – chose to pass and was caught out. It’s another example of aping Pep Guardiola’s tactics but making the wrong decision.

We had to withstand a Spurs revival but saw them off.

No one gave us much chance in a cycle of Sunderland, Spurs and Man City but – as I write this – we have 6 points out of 6 in beating the first two. To quote Fulham’s telegram address of the 1960s (‘Fulhamish’) an adjective our delightfully unpredictable eccentric team . Precisely.
