The Tanner Report: Wolves 1 Fulham 2
Head cosch Marco Silva made wholesale changes after the Crystal Palace win last Saturday.
Out went Calvin Bassey, Alex Iwobi, Raul Jimenez and Antonee Robinson – all relegated to the bench – whilst Issa Diop and Jorge Cuenca came into a back five and Rodrigo Muniz started up front.
In the afternoon I had watched the DVD of Fulham’s play-off victory over Aston Villa nearly 8 years ago.
Alex Mitrovic was then in his pomp, Ryan Sessegnon was a starlet at 18 and Tom Cairney at his best. However, I doubt if keeper Marcus Bettinelli, Full backs full backs Matt Targett and Ryan Fredericks, defender Dennis Odoi or forward Abounou Kamara would make this side.
Sessegnon moved to Spurs but he did not train on – un-fancied by Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte -suffering injuries too and now back in Fulham colours as a squad player. He always had an aptitude for scoring and here did so for Fulham in the first minute.
The game was a reunion for former Wolves players Adama Traoré and Raul Jimenez but was nonetheless fiercely contested on a cold night at Molineu. Presumably the two Portuguese coaches knew one another too.
Wolves equalised but Muniz score the winner with a delicate lob.
On Saturday Fulham play Manchester Utd in the FA Cup.
Marco Silva does not like to change a losing team but presumably Antonee Robinson will start. Joachim Andersen looked comfortable in a five alongside Diop and Cuenca and the serial potency was greater.
