Time to say goodbye
Its time to say goodbye to James Anderson and Stuart Broad.
With an inexperienced captain they probably exercise too much influence and one has the impression that Anderson is holding out and for his 5ooth Test wicket.
They are choking up the selection. I would like to see in their absence an eleven of Burns, Sibley, Denly, Root, Stokes, Buttler, Woakes, Curran, Leach, Archer and Wood.
One of the strengths of the Michael Vaughan Test side of 2005 was the third layer of batting in Andrew Flintoff, Geraint Jones and Ashley Giles who could add 150-200 runs.
With a batting collapse more or less the norm in this present side, Buttler, Woakes and Curran might stem the collapse and add some useful runs. Maybe Moeen Ali can be tempted back – and in reserve there are Jonny Bairstow, Ben Foakes, Liam Plunkett and Ollie Pope.
Anderson is injury prone and much more effective on English wickets with the Duke’s ball.
Thanks and goodbye.
