Vigil/BBC One

The problem with contemporary BBC drama is that it is all too predictable.

There is invariably a stressed-out but assertive woman detective, normally gay, who confronts successfully the male establishment.

In this case the detective Amy (Suzanne Jones) is literally dropped into a nuclear submarine HMS Vigil where a crew member died in suspicious circumstances after alerting the boat of a sinking trawler above them.

You also know that 20% of the cast will be BAME, irrespective of acting ability.

All must be sanitised and approved by Compliance and Diversity.

I wonder if they were around a few years ago Boys from the Black Stuff or Cathy Some Home would ever be made or shown.

I doubt if I will be watching the second episode.
