Vingegaard‘s yellow jersey

Le Tour is both a team and individual event.

Team because the team leader is dependent on his ‘domestiques’.

The Sky team under Dave Brailford – now Ineos Grenadiers – had initially Bradley Wiggins supported by Chris Froome.

Froome took over as team leader, winning the yellow jersey 4 consecutive years, and then his number two Geraint Thomas  took over.

The two most powerful teams this year are Vengegaard’s Jumbo-Visma – with Wout van Aert  and Sepp Kuss being competitive on all fronts – and UAE Team Emirates, led by Tadej Pogacar and Adam Yates, who may make the final podium.

But it’s an individual test too, exemplified by Tuesday’s time trial from Passy to Moutiers.

Pogacar  rode really well with the second fastest time but Vingegaard better, increasing his lead to under 2 minutes.

Yesterday on the daunting Col de la Luze this increased to 7 minutes 30 seconds.

The Slovenian was shot and the yellow jersey is surely Vengegaard’s.
