Bliss: Sussex v Glamorgan (3rd day)

Sometimes in life you are exactly where you want to be and yesterday it was at the County Ground Hove.

In the week I had two tiring and trying trips to London and just wanted a relaxing day at the cricket in the sun with a pint of Harvey’s.

It mattered not that Glamorgan fought back – with skipper Karin Carlsson scoring 187 not out and Marnus Labuschagne 138 – to make 499-5 at stumps. They overhauled Sussex’s total so any result is possible on the fourth and final day.

In the second and third day Aussies were amongst the runs.

Marnus Labuschagne, who has the twelfth high Test average of all time, is a compact run accumulator rather than a dashing stroke maker but every side needs one of these.

I can see him playing a big rôle in the Ashes.

Perhaps less so Ollie Robinson, who could not bowl after lunch because of injury.

With Jofra Archer, Olly Stone and Overton already out – and Jimmy Anderson with a groin strain – we are looking threadbare in the pace department.

The Aussies have Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc fit and raring to go. Glamorgan’s Michael Nesse, who is back up pace for the Aussies, looked pretty effective too.

Surprisingly there was not a big crowd yesterday and probably a small one today with Brighton’s last home game against relegated Southampton as competition.
