TheTanner Report: Fulham 3 Huddersfield 2

Fulham scored three wonderful goals in the first thirty minutes, then conceded two and in the end had keeper Marek Rodak to thank for a series of fine saves.

Bobby Decordova-Reid controlled a long cross-field pass on his chest then set off on a run that reminded me of the famous Archie Gemmill goal for Scotland.

On and on went Reid into the box, opened up his body and  slotted the ball into the net.

The second was if anything better.

Tom Cairney controlled  a cross from Cyrus Christie in the box, teed it up and swivel-volleyed home.

The third was a trademark Joe Bryan low cross to the near post which Alex Mitrovic converted.

Game over you might have thought.

Our defence, despite a decent run recently of clean sheets in the Championship, still seems to fold whenever the opposition runs directly at it.

This happened for both goals and Huddersfield were back in the game.

In the second half – save for  some fine shot stopping from Rodak – the visitors would have won.  In the final quarter Fulham were content to play the game out but it should have been over as a contest well before that.

That Huddersfield had more shots on target says it all.

Leeds seems to be self-combusting and the gap between them and Fulham narrows every week.

We have another six games in February which include matches against top half teams Preston, Blackburn and Millwall. We need to up our game to maintain the challenge for automatic promotion.
