Just in

A surprising shop

I was dreading my weekly shop at my local supermarket.

I don’t like it at the best of times as they have little fresh food outside fruit and veg, the clientele are rather aggressive, they play music loudly and the staff are cliquey.

So the notion of queuing for an hour or so filled me with dread.

However needs must, especially as I needed a new prescription at their pharmacy. I duly took up my place in the queue some thirty minutes before the store opened.

The queue was orderly, social distancing respected and my only irritant was one man next to his lady partner smoking and speaking on his mobile noisily.

To my pleasure he was denied entrance.

We duly filed in and my shop was accomplished in 30 minutes. The only criticism I could make was that on exiting we were held back in a queue for others to enter as there is design fault in the store because the  exit/entrance is only able to accommodate two at a time.

There is some criticism from the know-alls in the media but personally I think the Government has done well in a difficult and novel position when they have to balance health risks, the economic fall out, and the social and behavioural consequence of lockdown.

The teller on the cash-out simply said “We have to do it”.

Of my friends I am truly proud that my godson’s mother has set up a stall to help the NHS in her local shopping mall and every day on a volunteer basis Grania goes to the ICU in her local hospital in Malta to provide invaluable care.
