Fulham supporters chew the cud
Three of us Fulham supporters met for lunch yesterday.
Some supporters, notably of the big boys, like to talk of their team regardless of the company but generally Fulham ones will only do so in the company of their fellow fans.
The immediate issue was whether Fulham would achieve automatic promotion in the final round of games this Wednesday.
To do so WBA must lose their home game v QPR, Brentford lose to Barnsley at home and us beat Wigan away.
The Championship is so competitive that with 2 games left only 3 teams had nothing to play for, one being QPR.
Wigan for example might face a 12 point deduction and will need the points.
Barnsley will want to get clear of relegation.
The conclusion was that it was unlikely.
Then we reviewed the season. If Scott Parker, Head Coach, does not achieve promotion then he will be under pressure. My own view is that he has done enough in his first full season – and what a bizarre season its been ith Covid 19 -to justify another one possibly under conditional benchmarks of success.
Above all the three of us celebrated that we are out of lockdown.
Two were businessmen that had to spend time on Zoom and relished the more personal contact over lunch.
