The Tanner Report: have Fulham been worked out?

With only one point from our last three Championship games and a defeat at home to out of form Leeds in the Caribou Cup the question needs to be asked – indeed addressed – if Fulham have been rumbled.

Marco Silva’s flowing style took us to the top of the Championship but now sides are pressing us and the results are not coming.

I am not that worried as we have missed our most creative spark Fabio Carvalho with a broken toe and Tom Cairney, another playmaker, is injured too.

The main attacking route has been the overlapping runs of Antonee Robinson. Alex Mitrovic, despite missing numerous chances at Bristol City on Saturday, has re-found his scoring mojo but I would add Rodrigo Muniz as another option.

The many tributes to Jimmy Greaves praised his balance.

Sadly this is a quality that Ivan Cavallero does not possess. This might explain why his shooting is so wayward.

Talking of Jimmy Greaves, I must share one memory. Johnny Haynes, an Edmonton boy, reserved his best performances for nearby Tottenham.

Against the Spurs post-Double side he played out of his skin, scored and Fulham still had the lead with 10 minutes to go.

Spurs keeper Bill Brown took an immense punt which sailed over the Fulham defence.

To their consternation Jimmy Greaves was running back and celebrating a goal.

It was possibly the easiest chance Jimmy Greaves  ever had.

Between now and Xmas we play Coventry next Saturday and QPR the following one, next up WBA and Bournemouth visit on December 3rd. These games will define our season.

About Alan Tanner

After a distinguished military service in the Catering Corps, Alan Tanner did well in mufti with his chamois as a window cleaner. Sadly he had to retire after falling from the fifth floor of Danny Murphy's mock Tudor home. He spends his retirement watching and writing about his beloved Fulham whom he has supported for over 50 years.
