A la Colthard: Mediterra, Portslade

You need a good excuse to go Portslade, a light industrial place adjacent to Hove, a place of car dealerships and secondary shopping.

The reason I took the Number “1” bus from Whitehawk to Portslade was to check out this Turkish restaurant of which I had heard good reports.

The lunch menu was £12 for two courses and you cannot argue with that.

I chose fried calamari.

These should be cooked on a light batter but these two had a thick greasy version.

Better was the lamb shish-kebab.

Four succulent cubes of marinated lamb on a bed of savoury rice.

I had glass of white wine – and then red – and in the end treated myself to a blood orange cointreau with my Turkish coffee.

The bill came to £29 without service, which was courteous and concerned, so I added 10% to that.

I guess the problem is attracting punters to Portslade but this is a  restaurant that deserves success.
