Bath – an overview
I’m really here going to plug the gaps of the previous posts.
Bath is certainly worth a visit but 48 hours would do it. The preservation of its architecture, the history of both Roman and Georgian bath are all fascinating.
It’s a convenient size to walk every where which is just as well as it has horrendous traffic and an inefficient taxi service.
I also enjoyed the long but direct train journey from Sussex through Hampshire and Wiltshire.
The days of romantic – let alone stylish – rail travel are long gone. You have to put up with mobile calls and on the carriage back there was a rich manure-like odour of baby poo.
Still you get some appreciation of what beautiful a green and pleasant land England can be.
As I left the Holburne I passed Bath rugby stadium, a compact ground by the river Avon.
Charmingly it’s next door to the Bath Croquet Club.
Whilst continuing my stroll in the city centre an elegant man smiled at me.
As I walked on I realised it was Jeremy Guscott who played 268 games for Bath and was one of England’s finest centres.
