Grinding to a halt under the eco-activist yoke
At the risk of becoming tagged as the Rust‘s unofficial motoring correspondent, today I return to the the subject of two significant threats to the quiet enjoyment of Britain’s public roads by the ordinary, average, law-abiding, private motorist – namely, cyclists and those who (unconsciously or uncaringly) choose to get about by riding E-Scooters – the most noxious and ridiculous form of transport ever invented by Man.
CYCLISTS
For years now a constant feature of the Government’s slavish cow-towing to the “woke” lobby has been its willingness to encourage and/or fund measures designed to disrupt and annoy both those who either work in the transport industry and/or use motor cars via the cunning “wheeze” of championing the use of bicycles in urban areas all over the country.
This thrust, of course, has been prompted by the supposed global “Climate Change” crisis which has caused a lemming-like rush of Governments of every hue and geographical location to panic over the amount of carbon monoxide that their economies are pumping into the atmosphere.
In the UK, where Prime Minister Boris Johnson seems hell-bent upon jumping aboard every populist fad and campaign going and spraying vast amounts of taxpayers’ money at it, this has resulted in our major cities becoming little more than giant cycling parks into which motorised vehicles venture at their peril and vast “penalty” cost.
And that’s not the end of it.
Take our capital city as an example.
These days the average pedestrian going about his or her business in the metropolis routinely comes across vast areas in which priority is given to cycling lanes – sometimes sparingly used – whilst alongside them tens of thousands of motor vehicles are consigned to sit in slow-moving (if moving at all) traffic queues on roads only about 60% as wide as they used to be, to what impact upon the country’s commerce and economy we can only speculate and shake our heads.
See here for a piece written by James Tozer upon the worsening situation in London, as appears today upon the website of the – DAILY MAIL
E-SCOOTERS
Meanwhile these silent, anti-social and dangerous “engines of chaos” continue to exert an ever-growing and decidedly negative influence upon life as it is lived by the ordinary Briton on the street, or indeed pavement.
I mention “pavement” because, as often as not, idiots riding E-scooters on them – rather than the road – have become a plague.
Part of the problem is that – despite the compelling evidence of accidents and disruption caused by these menaces continuing to mount up – those in charge of the country are sufficiently in thrall to the E-scooter industry and “Climate Change” activists that they pump out propaganda material like confetti every week.
Here’s an article by Rob Hull reviewing the latest supposed “upsides” of increasing the sales of E-scooters, but also pointing out some of the serious drawbacks that they cause, as appears today upon the website of the – DAILY MAIL
I rest my case.
