Hahah! Don’t believe everything you read in the media

Those in the traditional newspaper and television industry around the world – never mind dedicated online news sites and the big battalions of social media which daily push out clips, rumours, fake news items and hilarious You’ve Been Framed-type “fails’ and cock-ups, any of which can go viral and attract millions of ‘hits’ in less than 24 hours – are fond of building stories out of medical and scientific surveys, research and findings.

There’s definitely a market for clever ‘hacks’ or humdrum ways of achieving spectacular results at little or no cost – whether that’s a couple who manage to create what seems like a £30,000 make-over of their drab kitchen by spending less than £100 on a lick of paint and a set of new cupboard handles, or a mother who has found a piecemeal but brilliant way of removing difficult stains from a clothes by adding a bizarre concoction of vinegar, lucozade and two tea spoons’ worth of Brasso silver polish to the dry-spin cycle on her household washing machine [public health warning: I made that one up as a hypothetical example].

For those of us who have had a lifelong interest in the making, imbibing and study of the glorious infinite varieties of wine, knowledge can be acquired from books, research, courses, dedicated social gatherings and practical exposure to expert advice – and well as (naturally!) our own investigation, trial and error and eventually development of personal preference(s).

For Rusters everywhere who relish a drop of the juice of grape now and again, here follows a link to a piece by Helen McGinn [without additional comment from me] that appears today upon the website of the – DAILY MAIL
