“Lets have some beers”

The reaction of Eddie Jones to England’s abject performance in the final was 2 days boozing and the group set off to Shinjuku the partying quarter of Tokyo. I don’t get this. They are athletes , alcohol is a depressant , the reality of failure will only be delayed, mental issues dominate sport and cameras are everywhere.

And what of the brilliant player who is a teetotaler. Is he excluded?

It was interesting talking to Bob, who prefers wine to beer and opera to sport. He might have a few glasses of fine claret at Glyndebourne but the notion of getting “lagered up” is foreign to him and in his view reduces appreciation of sport as well as its status.

Our group of New Zealanders liked beers best of all. The Rusters though popular were worried they were seen as party-poopers for seeking to enjoy their limited time in Japan sightseeing and appreciating the local culture.
