Pay to view

I was relieved that the Premier league has scrapped Pay to View but not for reasons of morality.

Of course the Premier League is awash with money because of their TV deals and can afford to be generous but that was not my beef.

I found it impossible to sign up for West Ham v Fulham and was dreading spending another hour of my time fruitlessly trying to obtain Fulham v Everton on BT Sport which is now transmitted on BBC.

I’m no fan of BT Sport anyway.

As new kids on the block I had hoped they might add some innovation. But they have not.

I think back of ITV and Jimmy Hill going from manager of Coventry to ITV Head of Sport.

His fertile brain invented the TV panel for the 1970 World Cup (Malcolm Allison, Paddy Crerand , Derek Dougan and Bob McNab ) and there has never been a more entertaining quintet with Jimmy presiding.

Cameras behind the goal, first rate analysis and interviewing , not shying way from controversy, ITV took on BBC and won.

Then SKY raised the bar with many more cameras and Andy Gray became top analyst.

BBC are still playing catch-up but at least we are spared the adverts.

Alex Mitrovic missed his second successive penalty in the Serbia v Scotland match in midweek.

It was common knowledge that if Fulham missed out on promotion, Mitro would want a move and his prolific scoring indicated that this was one position which did not need adjustment.

Sadly it does. He has only scored one goal all season and it seems likely Fulham will buy a striker in the January window.

It would be ironic that if Fulham did get relegated – and West Ham was yet another defeat at the hands of a team above us, as were Leeds and Crystal Palace – another Premier club might not come in for him.
