Sussex v Leicestershire (third day)

Sussex are now poised for victory against Leicestershire.

They declared at 296-6 setting Leicestershire a target of just over 450. At stumps Leicestershire were 139-5, losing their major batters, notably Patel.

Confidence oozes through this young Sussex side, who top Division 2 of the Championship and are second in the southern section of the T20.

Furthermore, three Sussex old boys – Jofra Archer, Phil Salt and Chris Jordan – are performing well for England in the T20 World Cup.

As with every club there are still the moaners: the catering, the floodlights, the visibility of the scoreboard all attract criticism and yet the team itself has turned the corner.

One element has remained and hopefully will always do so.

It’s such a lovely place to watch cricket, particularly yesterday in glorious sunshine and good company with some bottles of chilled rosé.

It’s a tremendous achievement that Sussex – in Brighton – now possess two highly successful cricket and football teams.
