The Harry and Meghan interview

Against my better judgment I did watch the interview.

My TV-watching on a Monday stops normally with the end of University Challenge at 9.00 pm. Then I prepare for bed. I watched the interview as I wanted to make up my own mind even though  the key points had already been revealed.

One thing immediately struck me.

The main thrust of their grievance was that the tabloid press was out to get them and they were denied the help they sought over this and other difficulties.

This resulted in Meghan feeling suicidal. But what could be done?

We have a free press and I doubt if the Palace or the Institution or the Firm – both latter descriptions used by the couple – did brief against them.

If they did where was the evidence? Oprah Winfrey did not press this point.

I doubt if any viewer who has spent a year in 3 lockdowns, fearful of catching Covid (mentioned just once by Harry as a comparative illustration of their personal grief and grievances) and of his/her future would be that sympathetic to the life of privilege – then and now – of Meghan or of Harry, aged 37, aggrieved that he was having to cope for himself financially.

Meanwhile they are collectively worth $50Mm + so they could afford their own security without any lifestyle risk.
